SARAJEVO (Bosnia and Herzegovina), August 18 (SeeNews) – Foreign directs investment (FDI) in Bosnia totalled 678.2 million marka ($406 million/347 million euro) last year, an increase of 81 million marka compared to revised data for 2019, the country's central bank said.
The FDI inflow can be described as relatively good in view of the deep global recession which affected foreign investors, the central bank said in a statement on Tuesday.
The largest part of FDI in 2020, 586.3 million marka, represented reinvested profit of existing companies with foreign capital, while equity investments were significantly less, it added.
Croatia and Serbia provided the highest inflow of FDI to Bosnia last year, 149.4 million marka and 135.3 million marka respectively.
In terms of sectors, Bosnia's banking sector absorbed the highest part of FDI inflow, 157 million marka, followed by wholesale trade with 93.9 million marka and electricity generation with 88.6 million marka.
According to cumulative figures, the overall FDI inflow to Bosnia by end-2020 amounted to 15.08 billion marka. Austria was the biggest foreign investor with 2.78 billion marka, followed by Croatia with 2.42 billion marka and Serbia with almost 2.19 billion marka. Sector-wise, the largest part of FDI went to financial services, 3.67 billion marka, telecommunications (1.74 billion marka) and wholesale trade (1.41 billion marka).
