October 22 (SeeNews) - German low-cost air carrier Eurowings will launch flights to Sofia Airport, in the Bulgarian capital, starting from October 28, the Bulgarian airport operator said on Tuesday.
Sofia Airport did not provide further details, which are expected to be disclosed at an event on October 28.
According to data from Eurowings' website, the company will carry out flights between Sofia and Barcelona, Split, Valecia, Budapest, Pristina, Stuttgart, Berlin, Zagreb, Bremen, Hamburg, Rome, and Amsterdam on October 28.
Eurowings will launch flights from Sofia to a number of other airports later this year and in the first half of 2020, data from the company's website also shows.
In July, Bulgaria's transport ministry picked a consortium led by French-based Meridiam Eastern European Investments as winner of a tender for awarding a 35-year concession contract to run Sofia Airport. The ministry's decision was appealed by all four other candidates, which filed bids for the contract.
