June 2 (SeeNews) - The European Union (EU) and the Western Balkans Investment Fund (WBIF) will grant Kosovo’s government 2.5 million euro ($2.7 million) to build a new wastewater treatment plan and extend the sewerage network in Gjilan, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said on Friday.
The construction of a new treatment plant in Gjilan aims to reduce pollution, improve water quality, and mitigate the effects of climate change in Kosovo, the EBRD stated in a public notice.
The initiatives are part of a multi-faceted project for the development of the sewerage system in Gjilan, co-financed by the EBRD and the European Investment Bank (EIB), each extending a 10-million euro loan.
The funds will be directed to the state-owned wastewater operator KRU Hidromorava, the country’s finance ministry said in a notice on Thursday.
