March 9 (SeeNews) - The European Union has provided a grant of 80 million euro ($84.6 million) to North Macedonia to help the country tackle the ongoing energy crisis, the government in Skopje said on Thursday.
The funding will back electricity subsidies for citizens, incentives for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and state investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency aimed at speeding up the country's energy transition, North Macedonia's government said in a press release.
North Macedonia's government is subsidizing electricity bills of socially vulnerable citizens as part of a 760-million-euro package to help citizens cope with the energy and economic crisis, the press release read.
North Macedonia's average annual consumer price inflation stood at 16.7% in February, after growing by an annual 17.1% in January.
