BELGRADE (Serbia), July 3 (SeeNews) – The European Union (EU) hopes Serbia and Kosovo will reach a mutual recognition agreement in the autumn, the EU rapporteur for Kosovo, Viola von Cramon-Taubadel said.
"The expectation will be that we finally, hopefully, will see a mutual recognition agreement during the fall," Cramon-Taubadel said in a video file posted on her Twitter profile earlier this week.
The next step in the efforts of the EU to facilitate an agreement between Belgrade and Pristina will be the conference in Paris initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron, Cramon-Taubadel said.
The EU is determined to put an end to the Kosovo issue, she noted.
Last month, the EU special representative for the Serbia-Kosovo dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, said Belgrade and Pristina are expected to resume the dialogue for normalisation of relations in July.
Serbia, which is in talks for joining the EU, needs to resolve its disputes with Kosovo, the country's former southern province populated predominantly by ethnic Albanians which unilaterally proclaimed independence from Belgrade in February 2008. Serbia does not recognise Kosovo's independence.
