February 3 (SeeNews) - The European Commission approved 22.5 million euro ($24.6 million) investment grant for North Macedonia, aimed at modernisation and expansion of the country's waste management system, the country's government said.
The Commission approved the grant within the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), the government said in a statement on Thursday.
The grant comes after the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) last month approved a 55 million euro sovereign loan to finance the project.
The Swiss government has already provided an additional 9 million euro as a donation, bringing the total amount of funding for the project to over 87 million euro, the government said.
The waste management plan for North Macedonia includes, among other matters, construction of new and rehabilitation of existing landfills, building new transfer stations and waste infrastructure for collection and transport.
