December 2 (SeeNews) - The Council of the European Union said it has approved an assistance package worth 10 million euro ($10.5 million) to support the armed forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina under the European Peace Facility (EPF).
The funding will strengthen the capacities of the Bosnian army's tactical support brigade by financing field equipment, tolls for military engineering and chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear materiel, the Council said in a press release on Thursday.
The assistance was requested by Bosnia's foreign minister Bisera Turkovic in June, the Council said.
The EPF was created in 2021 to support partners around the world in the areas of military and defence, and with the ultimate aim of preventing conflict, preserving peace and strengthening international security and stability.
The European Commission in October recommended to the Council that Bosnia and Herzegovina be granted candidate status if the country takes steps to make reforms in several areas. The country applied for EU membership in February 2016.
