December 2 (SeeNews) - The European Commission said it has disbursed 3 billion euro ($3.58 billion) for Romania under the Support to mitigate Unemployment Risks in an Emergency (SURE) instrument to tackle the socio-economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
The funds are part of a 8.5 billion euro third installment of financial support provided for five EU member states under SURE, the Commission said in a press release on Tuesday.
This support, granted as loans on favourable terms, will assist member states in addressing sudden increases in public expenditure to preserve employment. Specifically, they will help cover the costs directly related to the financing of national short-time work schemes, and other similar measures they have put in place as a response to the coronavirus pandemic, including for the self-employed, the Commission said.
Once all SURE disbursements have been completed, Romania will have received total 4.1 billion euro.
