BUCHAREST (Romania), March 24 (SeeNews) – The European Commission said on Friday it is providing 20 million euro ($21.5 million) to Romania from the Cohesion Fund for the upgrade of water and sewerage infrastructure in the western county of Caras-Severin.
The project envisages the rehabilitation and expansion of infrastructure of water and sewerage in the towns of Resita, Caransebes, Bocsa, Otelu Rosu, Moldova Noua, Oravita , Anina and Herculane, the Commission said in a press release.The improvements will ensure that the quality of drinking water and wastewater treatment are up to European standards.
"Following this decision, we will be able to complete an investment of great need for the people in this area of the country," Corina Cretu, European Commissioner for regional policy, said.
The rehabilitation works will also improve environmental protection, as all wastewater coming from households and companies will be treated before discharge.
This is an investment started in the 2007-2013 programming period, which will be completed in the current programming period of 2014-2020, the Commission added.
