June 7 (SeeNews) - Malaysian electronics manufacturer Escatec said that it has opened a new 4,000 sq m production facility in Bulgaria's second-largest city of Plovdiv, establishing its ninth site worldwide.
The company, which has seen rapid growth in recent years, took the decision to open the now operational site so as to cater to increasing order volumes in Europe through cost-effective nearshore production operations, it said in a press release on Tuesday.

The Plovdiv site has been equipped with the machinery, processes and workforce able to vertically integrate the company's plastic moulding and electronics assembly activities. The plant offers services such as functional testing, laser marking and plastic injection moulding, according to Escatec's website.
In the long run, Escatec Bulgaria is seen likely to become the Asian company's main production facility in Europe for plastic moulding and electronics assembly, facilitated by Bulgaria's EU membership, Plovdiv's strategic locations and transport connections to the wider Europe, along with the existing large industrial base.
The Penang Island-based manufacturer's main clients are equipment manufacturers in the industrial, medical and transportation sectors based in Europe and North America. It has developed technology for micro-optics-electro-mechanical-systems for military and space use, for ophthalmology, hearing aids and automotive pressure sensors. Its services are also used in the semiconductor market and to prevent counterfeit devices in products.
Apart from two domestic production sites, Escatec has two other factories in Czechia, one in the UK, and an advanced production facility in Switzerland, where it also has a design and development centre. It has established a strategic partnership in the U.S.
Elsewhere in Southeast Europe, Escatec last year set up a strategic partnership with Byte Lab Grupa in Croatia for product development, design and prototyping services.
