May 14 (SeeNews) - Serbia's government plans to open for traffic the entire motorway of pan-European transport Corridor X on its territory on May 18, infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic has said.
The section of the motorway in the Grdelicka Klisura canyon will be opened on Saturday, which will practically mean the completion of the entire Corridor X in Serbia, Mihajlovic said in a press release on Monday.
"On Saturday, we will open the entire southern part of Corridor X, which shows that we are able to execute large projects," Mihajlovic said.
The construction of Corridor X motorway in Serbia was initially scheduled for completion by the end of 2017 but the complexity of works in the Grdelicka Klisura gorge have delayed the project.
The construction of the motorway section through Grdelicka Klisura was financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and was divided into three lots built respectively by three groups of companies - Azvi and Tadei, Trace and Mostovik, and Euro Alliance Tunnels and Road & Bridges.
Corridor X will connect Salzburg in Austria to the Greek port of Thessaloniki, passing through Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Macedonia. In Serbia, the project includes the construction of the Belgrade bypass motorway, as well as two separate sections, linking Nis to Levosoje, near the border with Macedonia, to the south, and to the border with Bulgaria to the east.
