TIRANA (Albania), January 19 (SeeNews) – The Energy Community secretariat said it has opened a dispute settlement procedure against Albania for the lack of unbundling of the country's electricity distribution system operators.
The procedure might lead to the suspension of certain rights if the regulatory infringement is not addressed, according to a statement of the secretariat of the Vienna-based organization posted on the Energy Community website.
In the 2016/2017 implementation report published in November, the Energy Community expressed its concerns about Albania’s lack of unbundling of the distribution and supply businesses of state-owned power operator OSHEE.
OSHEE and the Albanian government adopted an unbundling model but are yet to put the model into effect.
Albania has now been given two months to comply of its own accord with the requirements of the Energy Community Treaty or to justify its position.
