SOFIA (Bulgaria), June 7 (SeeNews) – Bulgarian coal-fired power plant Maritsa East 3, majority-owned by Italy’s Enel, said on Tuesday its five-month power output rose by 28% to 2,685,375 megawatthours (MWh).
The plant achieved a record-high gross monthly output of 621,066 MWh in May, it said in a statement.
Enel acquired a 73% stake in the plant in 2004. In March the Italian utility said it plans to sell the stake in the plant to U.S.-based ContourGlobal for 230 million euro ($335.8 million).
Bulgarian power utility NEK holds the remaining 27% of the 908-MW plant.
Located in southeast Bulgaria, Maritsa East 3 accounts for about 10% of the country's total installed capacity. Last year it posted revenues of some 231 million euro and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) of about 69 million euro.
Enel plans also to exit its renewable energy business in Bulgaria by selling its two wind farms.
