April 30 (SeeNews) - Eight Romanian soldiers were wounded in an attack in southern Afghanistan after a bomb hit their vehicle in Kandahar province, Romania's defence ministry said on Monday.
The injured soldiers, who are part of the Carpathian Eagles 30th battalion in Campulung Muscel, have been taken to the Kandahar military hospital and their life is not in danger, the ministry said in a press release.
The troops' mission, which lasts until August, is to ensure the protection of Kandahar Military Air Base force and to provide training, advice and assistance to the Afghan National Forces.
The Campulung Muscel military unit performed similar missions in Kosovo in 2005 and 2007 and in Afghanistan in 2008.
In 2018, the Romanian Army participates in the NATO Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan with 625 troops, while some 300 are deployed under NATO / EU, United Nations, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) mandates in other regions.
During the foreign missions, 29 Romanian soldiers lost their lives, and more than 185 were injured.
Romania is a NATO member since 2004.
