January 28 (SeeNews) - The European Investment Bank (EIB) said it has agreed to provide a 500,000 euro ($557,723) grant to finance the preparation of a sustainable urban mobility plan of the Serbian city of Nis.
The grant will cover the preparation of framework for major investments in the transport network of Nis, the bank said in a statement on Thursday.
The ensuing investments are meant to provide Nis with more environment-friendly mobility options, while offering a wider range of transport options, the EIB added.
"This technical assistance will provide a foundation for developing projects that will bring multiple benefits to people living and commuting to Nis, as well as economic benefits arising from better connections within the city and with surrounding municipalities. At the same time, it will help the city address urban development and climate-related challenges and thus improve environmental and living conditions," EIB vice-president in charge of the bank's activities in the Western Balkans, Lilyana Pavlova, said.
