January 19 (SeeNews) - Serbia's energy minister Aleksandar Antic said French state-run utility company Electricite de France (EDF) has expressed interest in participating in energy projects in his country.
A delegation of top managers of EDF is expected to visit Serbia in February which represents a unique opportunity for the country to improve its power grid, Antic said in a statement issued by the government on Thursday.
Antic signed a letter of intent with the French ambassador to Serbia, Frederic Mondoloni, under which the governments of the two countries will support cooperation in the field of renewable energy, the increase of the efficiency of the Serbian power grid and energy efficiency, the Serbian government said.
As much as 80% of France's trade with Western Balkan countries is concentrated in Serbia, which makes the country the company's most important partner in the region, Mondoloni said in the statement.
In December, the Serbian president's office said French president Emmanuel Macron plans to visit Serbia in 2018.
