December 1 (SeeNews) - Some 77% of Kosovars identify the struggling economy, unemployment or corruption to be among the biggest problems facing the nation, U.S.-based International Republican Institute (IRI) said, citing results of a recent poll.
Around 78% of citizens between the ages of 18 and 35 would definitely or probably take the opportunity to go abroad for a period longer than a vacation, IRI said in a statement on Tuesday, citing the results of a poll conducted by local market research agency Kantar Index Kosova on behalf of IRI's Center for Insights in Survey Research.
“A struggling economy and a sense that corruption can be found in all elements of society has younger Kosovars looking to build a future beyond their country’s borders," Paul McCarthy, regional director for Europe at IRI, said in the statement.
The poll also found that only 40% of citizens believe that Kosovo is moving in the right direction, while 76% hold the view that democracy is the best possible form of government.
Support for EU and NATO membership is strong, with 89% of Kosovars in favour of the country joining NATO and 91% supporting EU accession.
The survey was carried out from September 3 to September 18. Data were collected through computer-assisted telephone interviews on a representative sample of 1,200 respondents aged 18 and over.
