September 25 (SeeNews) - Croatia will allegedly receive on October 16 the European Commission's green light to join the EU's Schengen free-travel area, local media reported.
The draft decision is positive for Croatia, as the Commission is expected to adopt it at one of the last meetings of the current team led by outgoing president Jean-Claude Juncker, daily Vecernji List reported earlier this week, quoting unnamed sources close to Brussels.
The final decision will depend on the support of each EU member state.
Vecernji List, recalls that EU members Romania and Bulgaria have been waiting to enter the Schengen zone for some ten years now, despite having secured the Commission's positive recommendation.
Croatia aims to enter the Schengen area before the start of its six-month presidency of the Council of the EU in January 2020.
