SOFIA (Bulgaria), December 7 (SeeNews) – The European Commission said on Thursday it has referred Bulgaria and Romania to the Court of Justice of the EU for failure to notify complete transposition of EU rules on collective management of copyright and related rights.
The Commission also said in a statement it is calling on the court to impose financial penalties of 19,122 euro ($22,519) per day on Bulgaria and 42,378 euro per day on Romania.
The infringement proceedings against the two countries were opened in May 2016.
The Collective Rights Management Directive aims at improving the way all collective management organisations are managed by establishing common governance, transparency and financial management standards, the Commission said.
The directive also sets common standards for the multi-territorial licensing of rights in musical works for online uses in the internal market.
