BUCHAREST (Romania), January 19 (SeeNews) – The European Commission (EC) said on Thursday it is providing 57 million euro ($60.7 million) to finance a road reconstruction project in northern Romania.
The funds coming from the Operational Programme Transport 2007-2013 will be used to finance the reconstruction of a section of DN1C national road located between the city of Dej, in Cluj county, and Baia Mare, in Maramures county, the Commission said in a press release.
"This infrastructure project has created safer and more comfortable travel conditions between the two cities. Also, the investment is beneficial to the local economy. We all know how important transport routes are for the development of a region. This investment has the potential to attract companies and stimulate the labour market," European Commissioner for regional policy, Corina Cretu, said.
DN1C is part of the route linking Austrian capital Vienna with Rostov in Russia.
Romania was allocated 20 billion euro in cohesion policy funds for the 2007-2013 period and 23 billion euro for the 2014-2020 period, the Commission said.
