May 24 (SeeNews) - The European Commission (EC) said that it has approved a 225 million lei ($56 million/ 46 million euro) Romanian scheme to support cattle farmers affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
The scheme was approved under the state aid temporary framework adopted by the Commission, the EU's executive body said in a press release on Friday.

The Commission concluded that the Romanian measures are necessary, appropriate and proportionate to remedy a serious disturbance in the economy of a member state.
Under the scheme, support will be provided in the form of direct subsidies to help farmers to partially compensate for the loss of income suffered due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Direct subsidies will not exceed 225,000 euro per beneficiary.
The scheme will apply until the end of 2021.
