December 21 (SeeNews) - Romania's development ministry said that the European Commission (EC) has a approved a programme worth 176 million euro ($187.2 million) which aims to improve cross border cooperation between Romania and Hungary.
The programme aims to fund projects which will reinforce border cooperation between the two states and make it more efficient and community-based, the ministry said in a press release on Tuesday.
Of the allotted amount, 80% comes in the form of grants through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the release further showed.
The Interreg VI-I Romania-Hungary programme also aims to create a greener cross border space between the two countries, to improve coordination related to protecting national heritage and to increase the quality of the healthcare sector through cooperation.
In Romania, eligible applications for projects may come from the border counties of Satu Mare, Bihor, Arad and Timis.
