SKOPJE (North Macedonia), April 3 (SeeNews) – The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said it is looking for a consultant to assist North Macedonia's government in preparing a feasibility study in the solid waste sector.
As the first step of involvement in the solid waste sector, the EBRD intends to commission a sector-wide pre-feasibility study for the Southeast region as a pilot region, the bank said in a procurement notice on Tuesday.
The assignment is envisaged to total 120,000 euro ($134,400), VAT excluded, and will be financed by The EBRD Shareholders Special Fund.
The objectives of the assignment are to prepare a pre-feasibility study for physical baseline establishment and initial review of potential project components and financial assessment for viability and financing options, the statement added.
“The SE region, being formed by 10 municipalities, covers 11% of the country’s total area and is ranked the 5th in terms of population density. The current status of waste management in the region is very poor due to a number of interconnected causes at the sector level,” the statement noted.
“The government now envisions a pilot project in this region, and seeks the most appropriate financing structure for this project,” the lender said, adding that the EBRD supports the government’s endeavour to facilitating private sector players’ entering into the conventional municipal services.
The assignment is expected to start at the beginning of May and has an estimated overall duration of 6 weeks.
Interested firms or groups of firms are invited to submit expressions of interest until April 23.
