February 2 (SeeNews) - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has opened a tender for the procurement of goods, works and services for the construction of a 2.9 million euro ($4.04 million) small hydro power plant on the Iliina river in southwest Bulgaria.
The project, proposed by the Rila Monastery, will be funded with the proceeds of a grant provided by the EBRD-administered Kozloduy International Decommissioning Support Fund (KIDSF), the lender said in a procurement notice posted on its website on Monday.

The hydro power plant on the Iliina river will provide secure and reliable energy supply to the Rila Monastery and the area while making possible energy efficiency improvements, the EBRD said.
The proposed project will require the design, supply, construction and commissioning of the small hydro power plant as well as consultancy services. The procurement of the relevant contracts is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2010, the bank said.
"Procurement will be carried out in accordance with the Bank’s Procurement Policies and Rules with the exception of country eligibility restrictions defined within the KIDSF rules and will be open to tenderers from the following eligible countries as of 1 February 2010: the EU member states, Switzerland and the Bank’s countries of operation," the statement also said.
No further details were immediately available.
The KIDSF was established in 2001 to support projects for restructuring and upgrades in Bulgaria's energy sector, thus compensating the country for the decommissioning of two pairs of reactors at its sole nuclear power plant Kozloduy.
