April 6 (SeeNews) - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said on Wednesday it is considering extending a sovereign loan of up to 55 million euro ($60 million) to North Macedonia to finance a waste management system project.
The project foresees the development of waste management systems in five administrative regions of the country, which will include reconstruction or construction of selected regional, sanitary landfills and procurement of bins and containers for recyclables and residual waste, transport vehicles and equipment, the EBRD said in a project summary document.
The potential loan would be provided in two tranches. The first one of 47.5 million euro will finance investments in the Polog and the Pelagonija and Southwest regions, whereas the second tranche of 7.5 million euro will finance solid waste landfill and transfer stations in the Vardar and the Southeast region.
The project is also expected to benefit from a Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs investment and technical cooperation grant, the EBRD added.
