December 15 (SeeNews) - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing a senior loan of up to 10 million euro ($10.6 million) to Trafiku Urban, the public transport company of Kosovo's Pristina, for the purchase of new buses, the bank said on Thursday.
Trafiku Urban will use the loan to buy 30 buses, comprising 24 Euro VI vehicles and six battery-powered electric buses, along with charging infrastructure, the EBRD said in a press release.
The project will introduce electric bus technology to Kosovo for the first time and help the country reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 76%, the lender added.
Furthermore, Pristina will benefit from a grant of 760,000 euro for project implementation and bus network restructuring by an international donor, the EBRD said, without disclosing the name of the donor.
Trafiku Urban will also spend 1.8 million euro of its own resources on a cost-sharing contribution to the project and provide in-kind support.
In 2016, the EBRD extended a 10 million euro loan to Trafiku Urban to buy 51 new diesel buses compliant with Euro VI emissions standards.
