May 23 (SeeNews) - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the EU are providing Serbia with a 13.8 million euro ($14.9 million) financing package for the reconstruction and expansion of Belgrade’s urgent care centre, the EBRD said.
The EU is extending a grant of 8.8 million euro, with the EBRD contributing a 5 million euro loan, the EBRD said in a press release on Monday.
The reconstruction of the urgent care centre will include improving its energy efficiency, as well as expanding existing facilities by 4,000 sq m.
“With rising energy prices, the case for investing in buildings’ energy efficiency is increasingly compelling. Beyond reduced energy bills, these investments contribute to cutting air pollution and creating green jobs in the local economy. In the coming years, the EBRD will step up investments in Belgrade and other cities across Serbia in this important area,” Matteo Colangeli, EBRD director for the Western Balkans, said.
The investment is part of the EBRD’s Green Cities programme, which Belgrade joined in 2019, and helps cities invest in green and sustainable infrastructure as well as meeting key environmental challenges.
