July 29 (SeeNews) - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said on Friday it has approved a loan of up to 25 million euro ($25.5 million) to Bosnia and Herzegovina for the construction of two tram lines and 20 tram stations in the capital.
The funding will help Bosnia finance the works on 12.96 km of tram tracks from the capital's western suburbs of Ilidza to Hrasnica, including the construction of a U-turn in Hrasnica, as well as the tram stations on the route, the EBRD said in a project summary document.
The project, worth a total of 34.768 million euro, will result in the reduction of CO2 emissions by over 85% through the development of electric public transport that will significantly reduce the use of diesel buses on the route.
The project is part of the EBRD's Green Cities Framework 2 - Window II Extension 2.
