January 11 (SeeNews) - Croatia's Dubrovnik Airport has launched a tender for the construction of infrastructure and superstructure valued at 927.7 million kuna ($129.2 million/122.8 million euro) as part of the airport's overhaul.
The tender foresees the reconstruction of the runway, construction of the superstructure of the airport building and a range of other important infrastructure improvements, the airport said in a tender notice.
The deadline for the submission of bids is March 3.
These works are part of an overhaul of the Dubrovnik airport valued at some 2 billion kuna, 74% of which is being financed from EU funds.
In April 2015, the boards of the European Investment Bank and the European Investment Fund approved financing for the upgrade of Dubrovnik Airport under the European Fund for Strategic Investments. A few months later the airport was also granted a loan from state-run development bank HBOR.
In July last year, the European Commission said it has approved financing for the project worth 214.9 million euro.
The airport plans to expand its land- and airside infrastructure to accommodate rising passenger numbers, expected to hit around 3.98 million by 2032, data from the project's environment impact assessment (EIA) indicated.
In 2015, the airport handled 1.7 million passengers, up 6.9%.
