BUCHAREST (Romania), May 18 (SeeNews) – Courier services provider DPD Romania said on Thursday it targets a 20% year-on-year rise in turnover to 12.3 million euro ($11.4 million) in the first half of 2017, and plans to invest 2.5 million euro in upgrading its IT network.
DPD also plans to deliver more than 5 million parcels during the first half of the year, it said in a press release.
In 2014, Bulgarian courier services company Speedy bought DPD Romania and GeoPost Bulgaria from GeoPost, owned by France's La Poste.
Throughout this year, the company aims to develop its IT network, focusing mainly on card payments system and logistics software.
"We plan to invest in IT and software in 2017 and thus have more flexibility in developing new services and improving delivery quality. Innovation will remain a major pillar of our strategy, and efforts will focus on boosting payments by card and on developing our Predict service, which allows us to accurately estimate arrival time for the parcels," CEO Lucian Aldescu said.
In 2016, the company posted a turnover of 25.5 million euro, up 24% on the year and delivered 30% more parcels compared to 2015. The advance was due to the company's new business line, PalletOne, which generated 13% of the company's turnover and by the strong development of e-commerce in Romania.
Under PalletOne, DPD delivers pallets for companies operating in FMCG, printing, stationery, home, auto and deco areas.
DPD Romania is active in the local market in 2008, following the takeover of Pegasus, the first urban delivery company in Romania, founded in 1997.
It has over 1,200 employees and suppliers in Romania and delivers 10 million parcels per year.
