May 23 (SeeNews) - Serbia's government said on Wednesday that UAE-based DP World could launch the construction of a new river port in the Balkan country next year.
The infrastructure ministry and DP World signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday on the construction of river ports in Serbia, the government noted.
A feasibility study will show whether the port will be located in Novi Sad, Smederevo or Belgrade, the government said in a statement.
Serbia will start the construction of new river ports and the investment in those projects is expected to reach about 200 million euro ($234.5 million), infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic said in the statement.
Last month, Serbia's government said it signed a contract with local company Beogradvode for the construction of a passenger port on the Danube river in Zemun, a suburb of Belgrade. A total of 150 million dinars ($1.5 million/1.3 million euro) will be invested in the project, which will allow Belgrade to double its capacity for handling river cruise passengers.
DP World has a portfolio of 78 operating marine and inland terminals supported by over 50 related businesses in over 40 countries across six continents, according to information published on the corporate website.
