April 16 (SeeNews) - DP World Constanta, the Romanian subsidiary of Dubai's DP World, said on Tuesday it has signed a protocol agreement with the local customs authorities that aims to facilitate control processes conducted by Constanta South Customs Office.
Under the arrangement, DP World Constanta can provide to customs, free of charge, a state-of-the-art X-ray scanner, with the aim of enabling smooth container traffic flow through the Constanta South Port while simultaneously complying with all customs security requirements, DP World Constanta said in a press release.
The X-ray scanner will be placed within the container terminal and is destined to be used exclusively for non-destructive customs controls, in the scanning of containers and transport vehicles.
"This is a strategic action for DP World Constanta, in its 15th year of operation in Romania’s biggest port, marking the company’s transition from a local port operator to a smart trade enabler," DP World Constanta said.
The document defines the rights and responsibilities governing the collaboration between the two entities over an initial time frame of 10 years.
"The signing of the protocol upholds the principles of gate-guarding and trade facilitation. We continue to improve container traffic flows from the terminal into Romania and beyond. This framework has major advantages for all the stakeholders involved: it benefits the port directly, while indirectly fuelling the national economy, through enhancing cargo clearance efficiency and ensuring effective law enforcement”," DP World Constanta managing director Cosmin Carstea said.
