SKOPJE (Macedonia), February 13 (SeeNews) – Deutsche Telekom said on Thursday that Makedonski Telekom [MSE:TEL] is the first company within the group, which is fully based on Internet protocol (All IP) thus making Macedonia the first European country with pure AII IP network.
Starting in October 2011, all Makedonski Telekom’s 290,000 fixed network lines were migrated onto the new platform and now services, such as Broadband on Demand, are already on offer, Deutsche Telekom said in a statement on its website.
This is a completely new concept, which allows customers to book online high-speed Internet access whenever they need it.
“The new technology has replaced the digital switches in Macedonia, ie. the PSTN technology (Public Switched Telephone Network), making time to market for the launch of new products and services much faster than before.”
Deutsche Telekom’s goal is to have the customers across Europe migrated to IP by the end of 2018.
As part of the IP transformation, Croatia and Montenegro, among Southeastern European countries, are expected to follow the move in 2015. Romania is expected to migrate the last customer to the new IP network by the end of 2018. the statement said.
Makedonski Telekom is majority owned by Hungary's Magyar Telekom, which in turn is part of Deutsche Telekom.
