January 19 (SeeNews) - Romanian car maker Automobile Dacia, a member of France’s Renault Group, saw its global sales rise by 6.8% year-on-year to 573,837 units in 2022, the French parent announced.
Dacia reaffirmed its third place on the European podium of sales to private consumers, reaching a market share of 7.6%, the group said in a press release on Wednesday.
Dacia’s results accounted for 28% of Renault Group’s 2,051,174 total unit sales, making it the runner-up brand to Renault, which saw a 9.4% annual decrease, to 1,415,646 units.
Dacia’s success was driven by four renewed models, with the Jogger model having entered its first year of marketing alongside the already established Sandero, Duster and Spring models, which were the first three to be sold to individuals in Europe.
Despite a 5.9% decline in its annual vehicle sales, Renault Group’s order book in Europe remained at a record level of 3.5 months as of the end of 2022, while its share of sales to retail customers constituted 67% in its five main European markets (France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the UK), up 8.7 percentage points compared to 2021.
Dacia’s annual sales performance in the full year 2022 accelerated from the 5.9% increase recorded during the first half of the year, when the company had sold 277,885 units in a market marred by the pandemic and a shortage of electronic components. In 2021, Dacia's net profit jumped by 67% to 498 million lei ($109.6 million/100.9 million euro), while its sales reached 21.4 billion lei, rising by an annual 17.2%, the company said in May 2022.
