February 5 (SeeNews) - The public transport company serving Croatia's eastern city of Vinkovci has added seven new low-floor buses worth a total of 15 million kuna ($2.2 million/2.0 million euro) to its fleet under a EU-backed modernisation project, the transport ministry said.
The project is financed by the European Union and Croatia's state budget and serves the needs of municipal transport company Polet Vinkovci, the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
The Vinkovci project is part of a larger 315 million kuna programme for the supply of 187 new buses for the needs of nine Croatian cities, transport minister Oleg Butkovic said in the statement.
"A new programme for the supply of a further 300 new buses is being prepared, thanks to which some 50% of buses in Croatia will be replaced," Butkovic said, adding a total of 1,100 buses operate the country's public transport network.
The new programme will be co-financed by European Unions funds, too, Butkovic said.
