January 24 (SeeNews) - Croatia's Rimac Group said that as of this month its fully-owned technology arm Rimac Technology has become a completely independent company, separated from its vehicles development division Bugatti Rimac.
“The Rimac Group is now fully operational, from January 1, 2022, as an umbrella company that incorporates Bugatti Rimac, active from November 2021, and the new standalone Rimac Technology business,” Rimac group said in a statement last week.
The Rimac Group is the majority shareholder in Bugatti Rimac, with a 55% stake and German sports car maker Porsche owning the remaining 45%.
“Separating the technology business into its own entity is a natural step as the focus of the two markets, hypercars and components, are completely different,” CEO of Rimac Group, Mate Rimac, said in the statement.
Rimac Technology will continue to expand its activities in the engineering, development, production, and supply of high-performance battery systems, electric drive units, electronic systems, and user interface components.
Rimac Technology has worked with many global equipment manufacturers like Porsche, Hyundai, Kia, Automobili Pininfarina, Koenigsegg, Aston Martin.
“Having delivered components for several niche volume projects in the past years, Rimac Technology is ramping up its production capacity and will be manufacturing tens of thousands high-performance systems per year by 2024 and further ramping up to volumes of hundreds of thousands with products ranging from small hybrid battery systems to full rolling chassis,” the statement added.
Rimac Technology has some 1,000 employees. As of next year, the Rimac Group, including Rimac Technology, will be headquartered at a new 200,000 square metres Rimac Campus near Zagreb, which could accommodate over 2,500 people. The campus incorporates all of the business segments of the group, including production of the Nevera next-generation all-electric hypercar and high-volume production of components for other original equipment manufacturers.
As CEO of Rimac Group, Mate Rimac will run both Bugatti Rimac and Rimac Technology. Bugatti and Rimac Automobili, Rimac's own electric supercar manufacturing arm, both continue as separate respective brands, both operating as part of Bugatti Rimac with shared R&D and other core functions while retaining existing production facilities and distribution channels.
Bugatti Rimac represents the company that will develop the future of both Bugatti and Rimac vehicles, by joining resources and expertise in research and development, production, and other areas.
