April 20 (SeeNews) - Croatian port operator Luka Rijeka [ZSE:LKRI-R-A] has signed two deals for implementation of infrastructure development projects at the port, to be financed with 37.6 million euro ($46.3 million) of EU finds, the city of Rijeka said.
Luka Rijeka signed a contract with local railway infrastructure operator HZ Infrastruktura for the reconstruction of the Rijeka Brajdica railway station. The port operator also signed a contract with a consortium consisting of Croatia's Sarda, Slovenia's Kolektor Koling and Bosnia's Euroasfalt to lead the upgrade works at the port of Rijeka which will include the construction of new infrastructure, the city government said in a statement on Thursday.
The projects will enable the implementation of a modern port system and the significant development of intermodal connectivity at the Brajdica container terminal.
"Today, we can say that in a little over two years we will have a modernised port, a new intermodal terminal and a station that will allow the handling of larger quantities of cargo," Croatia's transport minister, Oleg Butkovic, said.
The investment cycle in Luka Rijeka ends in 2021. Six development projects are planned to be funded with 115.5 million euro from the Connecting Europe Facility.
