May 29 (SeeNews) - Croatia's prime minister Andrej Plenkovic on Monday met representatives of Russia's Sberbank, a major creditor of food and retail concern Agrorkor, to discuss the situation at the troubled company, the government said.
Plenkovic met with the first deputy chairman of Sberbank's executive board, Maxim Poletaev, and the management board chairman of Sberbank Hrvatska, Mario Henjak, to discuss Agrokor's finances after the Russian bank earlier announced it would not issue new loans to the company until its earlier loans are given seniority in repayment, the government said in a statement made available to Seenews.
The two sides agreed that their common goal is to ensure the company's operations are sustainable and successful, according to the statement.
The government did not say whether Sberbank will be extending a new loan to Agrokor, which was placed under receivership last month.
Agrokor recently said it owed Sberbank some 8.2 billion kuna ($1.2 billion/1.1 billion euro). The last loan of around 100 million euro was extended in the first quarter of the year. Sberbank officials later said the bank would not issue new loans to Agorkor until this loan is given seniority in repayment.
