January 28 (SeeNews) - Croatia's prime minister Andrej Plenkovic said on Tuesday he has dismissed health minister Milan Kujundzic over alleged wrongdoing related to his declaration of property that has sparked a public scandal.
"The ministry of health needs to focus on the global threat called coronavirus, while the minister was focused on explaining topics that have nothing to do with the ministry, which is why I decided to dismiss him," Plenkovic told reporters, according to a video file published by news daily Jutarnji List.
Plenkovic added that he will propose a new health minister on Wednesday.
On Monday, Kujundzic denied wrongdoing and said he would leave to the prime minister to decide whether to dismiss him, blaming the scandal on groups that have interest in removing him from the position of health minister.
“I apologise once again to the public for the sloppily filled property declaration, in which no property is hidden,” Kujundzic said during a news conference, according to a video file published by public broadcaster HRT.
Kujundzic said said that all property was acquired with honest work and loans years before he entered politics.
Milan Kujundzic has served as health minister since October 2016.
