May 12 (SeeNews) - Croatian state-owned gas transmission system operator Plinacro said on Tuesday that its 430 million kuna ($62 million/57 million euro) project to build a pipeline linking mainland Croatia to a planned LNG terminal on the Adriatic island of Krk is running according to schedule despite the coronavirus crisis.
The Omisalj-Zlobin pipeline is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year, aiming to secure supplies once the LNG terminal becomes operational, Plinacro said in a statement.
It added that works on the project began in December and have been progressing simultaneously along the route of the planned 17.5-km pipeline.
So far, almost the entire trench of the pipeline has been dug and some 7.4 km of pipelines have been installed, Plinacro said, adding that works on the two gas junctions have also been in progress.
The Krk LNG terminal will have a capacity of 2.6 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas per year as of 2021. It willl deliver gas to the Croatian national transmission network connected to fellow EU member states Slovenia, Italy and Hungary, as well as non-EU countries Serbia and Montenegro.
