June 30 (SeeNews) - The Croatian unit of Slovenian retailer Mercator [LJE:MELR] said on Thursday it has opened a 1.2 million euro ($1.7 million) supermarket in Biograd, on the Adriatic Sea.
The store has an area of 1,200 square meters and will create 50 new jobs, Mercator-H said in a statement.
Mercator-H said it will also open within 10 days a 3.3 million euro logistics center near Zagreb.
The launch of the Biograd store and the upcoming opening of the new logistics hub bring the company's investment tally to 16.5 million euro in the first half of 2011.
Ljubljana-based Mercator (www.mercator.si) posted a 26.8% increase in revenue from Croatian operations to 399.4 million euro last year, ranking as the second largest fast-moving consumer goods retailer with a market share of 8.0-9.0%.
