May 27 (SeeNews) - Croatian state-owned shipping company Jadrolinija will initiate a public procurement procedure for the design and construction of three electric vessels, with an estimated total value of 275 million kuna ($39 million/36 million euro), it said in a notice.
The company will initiate a procurement procedure to build and design three electricity-driven ferries, according to a notice published on Tenders Electronic Daily (TED), a European public procurement online portal, on May 23.
The autonomy of the vessels should be at least 48 nautical miles at a speed of 12 knots.
The company intends to finance the purchase of the vessels with European Union funds.
Its fleet consists of 54 vessels, including 40 ro-ro ships, but none of them is electric.
An upgrade of the fleet is envisaged in the country's Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF).
The European Commission approved last year a grant of 6.3 billion euro ($7.5 billion) for Croatia under the RRF to help the country emerge stronger from the pandemic.
