May 17 (SeeNews) - Croatia's inflation accelerated to 1.4% year-on-year in April from 1.1% a month earlier, the country's statistical office said on Wednesday.
Month-on-month, Croatia's consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.5% in April, after edging up 0.3% in March, the Bureau of Statistics said.
Food prices, which have the biggest weight of 27.64% in the consumer basket, climbed up 3.5% on the year last month, after rising 3.3% in March.
Annual deflation in the housing and utilities segment, with a 16.58% weight, narrowed to 2.7% from 4.9% in March, while the transport segment, which has 12.48% weight, recorded an inflation rate of 4.4% in April, compared to a rise in prices of 5.9% in the previous month.
The month-on-month price increase in April reflected a 4.9% growth in the price of clothing and footwear, a 0.9% rise in the price of restaurants and hotels, a 0.5% growth in food and non-alcoholic beverages, a 0.3% growth in the prices of furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance, a 0.2% increase in the prices of miscellaneous goods and services, and a 0.1% growth, each, in the prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco, and in the price of health.
In 2016, Croatia's consumer prices fell by an annual average of 1.1% after a 0.5% contraction in 2015.
