June 13 (SeeNews) - Croatia's railway infrastructure operator HZ Infrastruktura said it has signed a 531 million kuna ($84.5 million/71.9 million euro) deal with Zagreb-based company Swietelsky, a subsidiary of the Austrian construction company of the same name, to upgrade and electrify the railway section between Zapresic and Zabok.
Works on the 24 km line are planned to begin this year and should be completed by end 2021, HZ Infrastruktura said in a statement on Tuesday.
Some 85% of the projects cost will be covered by EU funds, the company noted.
The modernisation of the Zapresic-Zabok railway line northwest of Zagreb will cut by half travel time of express trains and by 30% that of regular passenger trains.
