March 23 (SeeNews) - Croatia's railway infrastructure operator HZ Infrastruktura said it has picked Zagreb-based company Swietelsky d.o.o. to upgrade and electrify the railway section between Zapresic and Zabok.
The estimated cost of the project is 614.4 million kuna ($101.9 million/82.6 million euro), of which 85% will be covered from EU funds, HZ Infrastruktura said in a statement on Thursday.
The modernisation of the 24-km long Zapresic-Zabok railway line northwest of Zagreb will cut travel time of express trains by 50% and that of regular passenger trains by 30%.
The upgrade is scheduled to start in summer 2018 and complete in summer 2021.
Swietelsky d.o.o. Zagreb is a subsidiary of Austrian construction company Swietelsky.
