October 7 (SeeNews) - Conservative Croatian Democratic Union, HDZ, and center-right MOST are expected to announce the formation of a government coalition on Friday, having reached an agreement following the September 11 snap vote, HDZ announced on Twitter.
HDZ's secretary general, Gordan Jandrokovic said in a statement on Thursday the party has secured a majority in the 151-seat parliament, with a few more MP's expected to join on Friday.
According to Jandrokovic, HDZ and MOST will form the new government coalition but they are yet to definitely agree on the distribution of ministerial seats. This agreement is also expected to be reached on Friday, after which both parties are expected to address the media.
HDZ leader, Andrej Plenkovic, told broadcaster HRT on Friday morning that MOST will get 4 seats in government, including a vice prime minister. Plenkovic added that MOST leader, Bozo Petrov, will be appointed parliament speaker for a 2-year term, after the two parties agreed on a rotating system whereby the post will be held by two people each appointed for a 2-year period.
HDZ won 61 seats in parliament in last month's early elections. MOST has 13 seats.
