October 4 (SeeNews) - Croatia's gross external debt stood at 46.7 billion euro ($46.4 billion) at the end of June, up by 1.1 billion euro compared to the end of March 2022, the central bank said.
“Despite the growth in debt in absolute terms, the strong increase in nominal GDP in the second quarter resulted in the improvement of the relative indicators of gross external debt by 1.5 percentage points from the end of March, so that at the end of June 2022, debt stood at 75.8% of GDP,” the central bank said in a statement on Friday.
The debt of the central bank increased the most int he second quarter, by 900 million euro, due to an increase in the volume of repo transactions, the central bank said. The debt of other domestic sectors, including their liabilities to affiliated creditors, went up by some 500 million euro, while general government debt decreased by 300 million euro while the debt of credit institutions remained virtually unchanged.
Croatia's gross external debt totalled 44.4 billion euro end the June 2021.
Croatia's economy expanded by 7.7% year-on-year in real terms in the second quarter, following an annual growth of 7.0% in the first quarter of 2022 and a 16.4% increase in the second quarter of last year.
