April 12 (SeeNews) - Croatian electric vehicle developer and producer Rimac Automobili plans to build a 200 million euro ($238.3 million) campus near Zagreb capable of accommodating over 2,500 employees, in order to support its long-term growth plans, it said on Monday.
The campus, which will spread on 200,000 sq m with a built-up area of 100,000 sq m, will include an on-site test track and accommodation for visitors and new employees, Rimac said in a statement.
The complex will also feature a museum, a rooftop garden, a games room, gym and training centre, restaurant and a kindergarten.
"The campus is our springboard to the growth plans we have over the next decade and beyond, strengthening us as niche hypercar maker, a leading Tier 1 supplier of electric performance technology to the world’s largest automotive manufacturers and an early mover in the worlds of autonomy and mobility," Rimac founder and CEO Mate Rimac explained.
Construction is planned to start later this year, with completion expected in 2023. The campus will be located near Rimac's current headquarters in Sveta Nedelja.
The new complex will be Rimac Automobili's international R&D and production base and enable the company to ramp up from prototype and smaller volume projects to high-volume production of its high-performance electric drivetrain and battery systems for many global car companies, the company said.
Rimac manufactures electric hypercars and provides technology solutions to automotive manufacturers. The company employs around 1,000 people.
The carmaker plans to present its latest C_Two all-electric hypercar model later this year, according to an earlier statement by the company.
German sports car manufacturer Porsche, part of Volkswagen Group, is in discussions with Rimac to form a joint venture that will manage the luxury car brand Bugatti, Volkswagen Group management board chairman Herbert Diess said in March. Earlier the same month, Porsche increased its stake in Rimac to 24% from 15.5% after investing an additional 70 million euro.
