June 19 (SeeNews) - Croatian telecommunications equipment manufacturer Ericsson Nikola Tesla [ZSE:ERNT] said on Tuesday it has received a 20 million kuna ($3.1 million/2.7 million euro) grant to increase energy efficiency at its premises.
Ericsson Nikola Tesla is among 77 local companies receiving a grant under a call launched by Croatia's economy ministry and its Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, aimed to increase energy efficiency and renewable energy sources in production industries, the company said in a Zagreb bourse filing.
The call is part of the EU's operational programme Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014 - 2020 for Croatia as the 77 companies will get up to 240 million kuna in grants. Following the implementation of all the activities envisaged and co-financed by this call, Croatia is expected to reduce its annual energy needs by over 80 million kWh and its carbon footprint by more than 17,000 tonnes per year.
Ericsson will use the funds to cut electricity use by 4.6 million kWh, reducing its CO2 emissions by nearly 1,400 tonnes.
