December 11 (SeeNews) - Croatia's Dubrovnik Airport has completed the second phase of the project for extension of its runway, it said.
The expanded runway, 2,099 metres in length, was opened for traffic on December 10, Dubrovnik Airport said in a statement on Monday.
The airport is proceeding with the third and last phase of the project, which is expected to be completed in March 2019, it said.
The airport has also implemented a Precision-Area Navigation (P-RNAV) application ensuring the precise round-the-clock landing of aircraft from both ends of the runway in day or night.
Dubrovnik Airport launched a 246 million euro ($280 million) project to expand its land and airside infrastructure in 2010 due to rising passenger numbers. The project is being financed mainly through EU structural funds and domestic bank loans.
